A Look Back at Global Pet Expo 2013, Part 2

By Julie Jacobs

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This month, let’s talk about some unique, functional items I found at Global Pet Expo, held in February in Orlando, Fla.

One of the most innovative items I found is from Primetime Petz, which designs and manufacturers pet furniture such as wood gates, kennels and steps. The furniture is stylish—something a pet owner can be proud to display in their home—made from chew-resistant pinewood, and stained and finished by hand.

Primetime Petz pet steps
Primetime Petz's Draw Step is multi-functional.
The multi–functional Draw Step is, in my opinion, such an innovative design. When not in use, the steps fold up and morph into an end or side table. One minute it is an attractive piece of furniture then, with a simple pull on the antique brass drawer handle, it becomes a set of steps for pets. Bonus: The middle step opens for storage—a great place to store pet essentials.

Another innovative, yet functional and user-friendly design from Primetime Petz is the Auto-Close Elite pet gate. Made of white, heavy-duty finished steel, it is a hands-free gate that operates via a unique foot pedal. Just step on the pedal, give the door a little nudge with your foot or hip, and it swings open easily so that your hands never have to make contact with the gate. It closes and locks automatically after every opening.

PoochPad Products' reusable, extra absorbent pee pads are another great find. Every time I was at their booth, someone would step up and say, "These are fabulous!” One person stated: "I purchased these and after 300 washings they are still working great!” So yes, I had to try PoochPads, and yes, I, too, find them to be fabulous!

PoochPads absorb five times their own weight, are washable (guaranteed for 300 washes), contain permanent odor protection and are reusable so they are economically and environmentally friendly, according to the company. The patent-pending pads come in assorted sizes. I purchased the XL (48-inch by 48-inch) pads to line the floor of my kitchen, which is where I keep my senior dog when I go out. I placed her beds on top of the PoochPads and then added some pads on top. This has proven to be a great system! PoochPad Products also makes reusable diapers and male wraps for incontinent dogs, crate pads, dog beds, grass potty systems and more.

Well, that’s all that’s fit to print for now. Come back next month for more great finds. ‘Til then, feel free to contact me at Julie@dogandfriends.com with any great products you found at the show.
