Losing My Girl

By Julie Jacobs

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On April 22, 2013, I wrote with a heavy heart. I lost my baby girl, my furry pal for the past 16 years. She is at peace now.

It has been a rough year, but she just wasn’t ready to leave, and I was never ready to let go. She was an amazing pal--confident, my rock, my teacher and my love! I learned so much from her.

When faced with certain pet illnesses, alternative treatments, such as acupuncture, might help. Hemera/Thinkstock

When she was diagnosed with kidney disease four years ago, I got into high gear and learned all I could to control it. I studied and researched many alternative treatments, becoming trained and certified in many of them. I became super educated in nutrition.

She went to the most amazing holistic veterinarian who combined Eastern and Western practices and performed acupuncture and other holistic treatments that all kept her strong.

I met an animal intuitive, who does all sorts of energy healing work, who became a good dear friend and taught me so much. She made my girl stronger and stable. And as weak as she was, she held on, still not ready to leave.

Through it all, I witnessed many new treatments that prolonged her life and maintained her quality of life. I did reverse the kidney disease through all I learned, as well as many other endless ailments that came along the way. So yes, alternative medicine works.

Do not be afraid to think out of the box if your furry friend is not feeling great. Alternative medicine is a great alternative. Be it Reiki, essential oils (practiced with caution, as not all oils are good or high-grade enough for animals), acupuncture, laser, massage, crystal healing, scalar wave and other frequency work, among other things, they all can help heal those animals that have a will and want to be healed.

I cherish the last six months I had with my girl, no matter how draining it was at times, because I always knew this day was around the corner. I almost lost her in November and then December, so I knew I was on borrowed time.

No matter how much I knew, and how relieved I am that she is now at peace in her happy place, it was such a sad day. My many memories will last a lifetime, and I know she will always be waiting for me over the rainbow bridge. Blessing my child! Mommy loves you!
