The New York Gift Show: A Resource For Your Pet Store

By Julie Jacobs

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The New York International Gift Fair (NYIGF) is just around the corner on August 18-22, 2012, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City. Although this is not a pet expo or show, it does feature plenty to offer at your store.

Check out New York City's gift fair this month.
Living in the NYC for years, I made it a point to be home last summer to attend the show for the first time in a long time. I found it to be a great resource for new vendors—more so on the gift side, although some of vendors did offer actual pet products (I even saw some familiar faces from Global Pet Expo). You also can find some unique other items for your shops to use for displays, serve to your customers, etc.

Some of the pet product vendors showing this year include: Up Country, Jax & Bones, Harry Barker, Creature Comfort for great cookie gift sets for the holidays, Life is Good gifts apparel & cards, Life of Ryley, Smucci Too, Taxi’s Dog Bakery, Island Dog Design for eco-friendly beds, Ruby & Jacobs apparel beds & pet themed gifts, and many more.

You can visit the NYIGF website for more vendor resources. Many of the vendors have posted their websites as well as catalogs that you can view or even download, so you can efficiently plan your trip or, if you cannot make it, still discover some new resources.

So if you want a great excuse for a fun trip to NYC to round your summer out, why not hit the NYIGF? There's so much to do and see—you can make a fabulous business/vacation week out of it. Dine at a gourmet restuarant or grab a quick pick me up from a food vendor off the street, take in a show on Broadway, visit some of the sites and of course, don't forget the great shopping!

If you need some recommendations as to what to see, where to eat or stay, please send me an email. After living in this great city for 20 years, I am sure I can give you some ideas that will work for you!  And make sure to bring your sneakers or super comfy shoes...the gift show is huge, stretching through the entire Javits Center, as well as to the boat piers. Couple that with cruising around the vast city and your feet will thank you! Feel free to reach me at Julie@dogandfriends.com.
