Ch…Ch…Ch…Changes

By Sherri Collins

Editor, Pet Product News International

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How well do you deal with change? I consider myself (as I suspect most people do) to be fairly equanimous when it comes to dealing with a shift in routine or an alternation in plans. I’m a firm believer in Ralph Waldo Emerson’s statement that “A foolish consistency is the hobgoblins of little minds…,” that without frequent change, life becomes exceedingly dull. Which leads me to this well-known truism: Be careful what you wish for. For here at Pet Product News International, change is frequently afoot.

With the most recent occurrence, the change was equal parts happy and sad for me. Sad, because Lindsay Hanks, a most excellent associate editor, has left to become an associate editor for BowTie Press, our book publishing division. Lindsay was a vital member of our team and even though she’s only a few cubicles away, everyone here at Pet Product News already misses her.

Happy, because Ethan Mizer has joined our editorial team as a senior associate editor. Ethan comes to us from Freshwater And Marine Aquarium Magazine (FAMA to the aficionado). He is taking over all of Lindsay Hanks former duties, assuming editorial responsibility for the magazine’s Aquatic, Cat, Grooming & Pet Services and Boutique & Gift marketplaces. He’s also our photo editor.

A little bit more about Ethan: He attended Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, Calif., graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Literature and Philosophy, and has worked for BowTie since 2005. He has four dogs--a German shepherd, a chow-Rottweiler mix, and two cairn terriers--and several aquariums, including an 80-gallon planted tank.

Ethan officially joined us on January 4, and has quickly adapted to the fast-paced and diverse nature of business-to-business publishing. He is a welcome addition to a great team, and his knowledge of the aquatic world stands us in even better stead. If you have a spare moment or two (and are so inclined), send him an e-mail (emizer@bowtieinc.com) to welcome him aboard.

Other Changes: If you click over to our “Contact Us” page, you may also notice a change in job titles for Brian Hutchins, our news director. Brian is now also the group editor for all trade publications (Pet Product News International, Pet Style News, Veterinary Practice News and Water Garden News) here at BowTie. Congratulations Brian!

Lastly, we’re planning a series of changes for PetProductNews.com. I don’t want to spoil the surprise just yet, so make sure you come back often so that you don’t miss a single one.
