SuperZoo or Bust

By Sherri Collins

Editor, Pet Product News International

It’s hard to believe, but it’s almost that time of year when pet-industry players make their annual migration to Las Vegas to attend SuperZoo, the national show for pet retailers produced by the World Wide Pet Industry Association (WWPIA). Wasn’t everyone on his or her way to Orlando just a short time ago? I hope that by now, you have your reservations in hand, your must-see lists compiled and your after-hours get-togethers planned. As with years past, this year’s SuperZoo will play host to a wealth of pet-product manufacturers showcasing new and exciting products in their booths and in the New Product Plaza. Click here to get a sneak peak at more than 150 of the new products that will be on offer at SuperZoo.

For those seeking the hottest fashion accessories, a stroll down Rodeo Drive is a given, as is attending Jet-Set Pets on the Runway, a twice-daily fashion show put on jointly by our sister publication Pet Style News and parent company BowTie Inc. Other must-see show areas include Nature’s Pathway, where you’ll find myriad natural, organic and holistic products, and the Aqua Terrace, for all things aquatic.

In addition, let’s not forget the Groomer Supershow, a show within a show where top-flight groomers from around the world display their talents and techniques, while competing over the event’s three days for prizes totaling $73,000. There is also an array of dedicated seminars to help attendees stay on the cutting edge of the grooming industry.

Speaking of seminars, this year’s SuperZoo University is offering a comprehensive program that touches on nearly every conceivable aspect of the pet-retailing business. Topics run the gamut from social media tips to marketing techniques to store design to customer-service strategies. Specialization is also front and center with seminars covering the ins and outs of selling aquatics, exotic birds and reptiles.

SuperZoo 2009 also brings a change in the show’s program. This year, WWPIA and Pet Product News International are combining the Show Program and the daily Trade Show News into one, all-encompassing publication. Each day, a new edition will be available, featuring all the information you’ll need to find the products you must have, the exhibitors you need to see and the seminars you want to attend, as well as news and views from the show floor. Our team of editors and writers will be combing the aisles to bring you the latest happenings from the show floor.

If you’re still undecided as to whether to attend, click here to see all that you’ll be missing if you don’t. You still have a chance to make your travel plans, but don’t wait too much longer as time is running out.

Where will you be on September 15? I’ll be at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Stop by the BowTie Inc. booth (#1732) to say “hello.” I hope to see you there.
