Insight at Intergroom
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Intergroom trade show and grooming competitions took place right in my neck of the woods last week, so I took the trip up to Somerset, N.J. to check out the scene on the grooming side of this business. In Pet Style News, we have our small grooming section, but it’s never been the main focus of the magazine, so I thought it would make sense to learn as much as I could at this show.
The competitions are serious business, although the groomers appeared to be having a lot of fun doing their work and socializing together. One of the contest judges during last Friday’s events was Mario DiFante, founder and executive director of Pet Fashion Week New York. Am I the only person who didn’t know Mario has a tremendous, award-winning background in grooming? He owns Four Paws Grooming in Providence R.I. and has been a groomer for 30 years. I guess that’s why Pet Fashion Week has always had a grooming side at its events too.
It was interesting to talk with some of the representatives from the manufacturing companies that were exhibiting at the show and to observe the amazing groomers doing some great work in the competitions. I’d love to talk with Mr. DiFante a little bit more about the grooming business in general. For everyone in grooming: if there’s something we haven’t covered in Pet Style News that you’d like to read about, give me a call or send an e-mail.
Have a great week everyone!
