SuperZoo and More ...

I thought SuperZoo was a good show—lots going on for retailers to take in. My understanding is that the number of exhibitors (600) and the overall attendance (about 8,000) were both down from the previous year, but the seminar attendance doubled. Looks like retailers are taking advantage of what some experts in the industry have to offer to give them ideas for their businesses. That makes sense in a slower economy where people need whatever good advice they can find.
Right after SuperZoo I took a vacation to New England. As my husband and I and our friends drove through all the cities and towns from Massachusetts to Maine to New Hampshire and Vermont, I was amazed at all the signs for grooming shops, pet stores, pet sitting etc. New Englanders love their pets. Many of the shops I explored were teeming with pet-related gift products (of course, I brought home a garden art piece of a Lab to place in front of my house). Belle sniffed at it but wasn’t impressed. However, for me, it was a great reminder of a wonderful trip and lets visitors know where my heart lies when it comes to pets.
While we were away for the week, I had someone housesit and take care of Belle at night. Since the person was a medical student and away all day, I had another pet sitter come in at lunch time to give her a walk and a little attention. I guess we are all a little crazy when it comes to our pets. That’s what makes this such a wonderful industry to be involved with.
