Tips for Selling Eco-friendly Small Mammal Bedding

Customers in all segments of today’s retail marketplace are searching out environmentally friendly products, including in the area of small mammal bedding. Some of these customers still hesitate to buy eco-friendly products, however, because they believe them to be more expensive than non-‘green’ items. The following tips can provide an extra push for moving eco-friendly small mammal bedding off of shelves:

  • Use the product in in-store visual displays.

Place literature (placards, pamphlets, etc.) with information about a specific type of environmentally friendly bedding next to in-store habitats filled with that bedding.
    .
  • Talk to consumers about what they are looking for in small mammal bedding (e.g., high absorbency, safe for people with respiratory sensitivies, made from recycled or organic materials, comes in specific colors), then recommend an eco-friendly bedding that fulfills those needs.
    .
  • Show the product’s value to consumers, whether it’s its effectiveness, cost efficiency, eco-friendliness or its ability to promote small mammals’ health and welfare.
