Champion Petfoods, the Edmonton, Alberta, Canada-based makers of the Orijen and Acana brands, has responded to reports that Nestlé SA is in talks to acquire a majority stake in the company.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Nestlé SA is seeking to purchase Champion Petfoods for more than $2 billion.
Nestlé’s acquisition of Champion could help the company sustain its pet-food operation, while helping Champion reach a broader customer base, the Wall Street Journal reported.
However, in a Facebook post on the company’s page, Champion Petfoods said, "Rumors about Champion being sold have been circulating over the past few years and will continue for as long we deliver on our promise to make the world’s best pet food under our ACANA and ORIJEN brands.
Champion Petfoods continues to be privately held with investment from our Canadian partner, Bedford Capital, and our vision remains—build trust with Pet Lovers everywhere. We are focused every day on delivering on our commitment to provide our customers with the world’s best pet food and the highest quality service."
