Chewy is on a hiring spree. At press time, the Dania Beach, Fla.-based online pet retailer had about 945 listed job openings on its career board website. Job opportunities were available in nearly 20 locations. However, judging by recent media reports, the number of job openings is even greater within the fulfillment centers.
For example, the Dayton Daily News recently reported that Chewy is looking to hire more than 400 full- and part-time positions for the fulfillment center in Dayton, Ohio. The center already has 1,300 workers, according to the newspaper.
In central Pennsylvania, Chewy is hiring more than 450 workers combined at its facilities in Silver Spring Township and Fairview Township, according to PennLive.com, which is part of PA Media Group. Full- and part-time jobs are available, including forklift operators, fulfillment specialists and management positions, among other roles.
In addition, Chewy is set to hire more than 500 workers for its Sparks, Nev., fulfillment center, according to the Reno Gazette Journal.
As an incentive, new hires can earn up to $20.50 an hour depending on shift and job with sign-on bonuses of $500, referral bonuses of $500 and temporary overtime incentives of up to $500 in addition to overtime pay, Joanna Hass, a spokesperson for Chewy, told Dayton Daily News. Similar incentives are also available for other locations, according to the respective news outlets.
In February, Chewy announced that it was set to open a corporate office in the Seattle region by the end of the year. At the time, the company had plans to hire “several hundred” technology, product and merchandising roles. Chewy is still actively hiring for such positions.
